Most know Fornite: Battle Royale, but it actually began as Fornite: Save the World in 2017: an action-building co-op campaign. In this mode, no two games of building forts, crafting weapons, and holding back monster hordes were ever the same. Now, the mode that started it all is going free-to-play as of April 16th 2026.

With pre-registration available, Save the World welcomes even more players to join the fight on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-registrants will earn in-game rewards, including a Save the World Hero, at launch. Existing players will receive Superchargers, Vouchers, and Gold on April 16th as a thank you for the last nine years of world saving. Founders will continue earning V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense Missions, and existing Challenges.

New purchases of the game have been paused, but existing players can still play ahead of launch. In the meantime, new players can learn about the game from community expert and game veteran, Beast. For more details on pre-registration rewards, check out the Communities Post.
