The Purr-fect message
There aren’t many games that offer up such a short experience yet leave such a powerful attachment at the end of it. CopyCat isn’t a game where you need to Trophy Hunt, play through multiple times; this is a game that you just must simply play. CopyCat was partially funded by the Australian government and was developed by the very talented Spoonful of Wonder. It’ll take you 2-3 hours of your time, but please. Please give it a shot. I am so glad I did and I think you will be too.

This is going to be a short review, but I had to get my feelings out about it. Starting up, you are given the task to re-home one of 6 adorable cats, as Olive’s cat has unfortunately gone missing and she wants some company. You pick the cat and Olive calls her Dawn. You then go home and enjoy your life together…
You take on the role of Dawn. You are a cat who has been mistreated before, and is very very afraid to commit to Olive and this new family that she has got. She feels every emotion she can feel. Scared, Lack of Confidence, Resentment and it takes Dawn time to realise that she can be a family cat again, or can she?

That’s where I stop with the story. CopyCat shows not just what happens to Cats and pets in general, but this also relates to people’s real lives. Tragedy, Loss, Sadness, Gain, Happiness. This ‘game’ will make you feel all these emotions and more, It’s a roller coaster of emotions and the developers have my applause. This isn’t a game where you’re going to see the true power of the PlayStation 5, you’re not going to see Unreal Engine mechanics…. but it doesn’t have to. This game just gets a message across that I think we all have been through at least once in life.
Spoonful of Wonder have done something rather magical in the medium of gaming, and I for one feel so much more grateful now that I’ve played it. And just remember, home is where you are needed most!
A big thank you to Spoonful of Wonder for the PlayStation 5 review code. This review is also on Open Critic
